Gantry Cranes

Load capacity up to 50 t · outdoor and indoor

We build gantry cranes for outdoor storage yards and buildings where an overhead crane has no support. Its own legs, its own runway, its own structural design — all from our plant in Michalovce.

Gantry crane specification

We state the ranges as engineering limits. Every gantry is sized for its handling area and load.

BUREX overhead cranes

Technical parameter Range and solution specification
01 Load capacity From 1 t to 50 t (depending on gantry type and span)
02 Gantry span Custom-built to the handling area — typically 10–40 m
03 Travel runway Rails mounted on concrete footings or a reinforced-concrete runway, levelled during installation
04 Outdoor design Storm brakes, wind restraints, control cabinet heating, C4–C5 class surface protection
05 Hoist SWF NOVA² / NOVA¹ wire rope hoists, or a CRABster hoisting crab at higher capacities
06 Standards Manufactured in compliance with EN 1090-2, designed and calculated to EN 13001

02 / Solution types

Types of gantry cranes we design and manufacture

Three structural arrangements according to the handling location.

Full gantry cranes

up to 50 t
  • Both legs travel on ground-level rails.
  • Most common for outdoor steel, long-material and precast storage yards.
  • Replaces a building — the runway needs no load-bearing building structure.

Semi-gantry cranes

up to 20 t
  • One side runs on a crane runway at the building, the other on a ground-level rail.
  • Uses the existing building as one support — saves material and space.
  • Suitable for annexes, loading docks and side bays of halls.

Indoor gantry cranes

up to 32 t
  • For buildings without a load-bearing structure for an overhead crane.
  • Runway on its own columns — the building's structural design stays unchanged.
  • A solution for leased or lightweight prefabricated halls.

03 / Applications

Where a gantry crane makes sense

Choose a gantry where handling belongs outdoors, or where the building cannot carry an overhead crane.

Crane runways

  • 01

    Steel and long-material storage

Handling profiles, coils and bars in outdoor yards. Lifting beams and magnetic attachments matched to the load.

  • 02

    Precast concrete production

Precast dispatch areas — daily-cycle handling of panels, trusses and columns.

  • 03

    Timber industry

Log and lumber storage yards. Fast travel and precise positioning even in poor weather.

  • 04

    Buildings without a load-bearing structure

When the building structure cannot carry an overhead crane, the gantry carries the load into its own legs.

06 / Frequently asked questions

Questions before ordering a gantry crane

Answers to what you ask most often. If your question is missing, call us — we will advise you right away.

What is the difference between an overhead crane and a gantry crane?

An overhead crane travels on a crane runway fixed to the building structure. A gantry crane has its own legs and travels on ground-level rails — it does not need a building for support, so it is used in outdoor storage yards and in buildings without a load-bearing structure.

What load capacity and span can you build?

We manufacture gantry cranes up to 50 t, with typical spans of 10–40 m. The exact limits are set by the structural calculation of each project to EN 13001.

Can a gantry crane operate outdoors all year round?

Yes. For outdoor operation we fit storm brakes, wind restraints, control cabinet heating and C4–C5 class surface protection. Operation in the applicable wind gust zone is verified in the calculation.

Do I need a building permit for a gantry crane?

The crane itself is lifting equipment, not a building. The travel runway (rail strips, foundations) may, however, be subject to building proceedings — it depends on the solution and location. We will advise you in the first consultation.

How do the official acceptance test and commissioning work?

After installation we perform a test load, prepare the inspection report and arrange the official acceptance test under Slovak Decree No. 508/2009. We then provide regular inspections and service.

No-obligation technical proposal

Gantry crane inquiry

Send us the dimensions of the handling area and the required load capacity. We will prepare a technical proposal for the gantry and the runway, plus the documents for your structural engineer.
